How can your newsroom reach younger audiences?

“Media4Change” invites journalists, editors, and other newsroom representatives from Lithuania to a two-part training focused on reaching younger audiences. We won’t be looking for one universal formula. Instead, you’ll work with your own newsroom’s realities, audience, and possibilities.

How can your newsroom reach younger audiences?

“Media4Change” invites journalists, editors, and other newsroom representatives from Lithuania to a two-part training focused on reaching younger audiences. We won't be looking for one universal formula. Instead, you'll work with your own newsroom’s realities, audience, and possibilities.

Many local and regional newsrooms are asking the same question: how do we reach people under 30 when we don’t have a dedicated audience team or unlimited resources? We invite you to explore practical ideas and approaches that can work for your newsroom.

After the first session, you’ll leave with a concrete plan and 2–3 realistic ideas that you can test in your newsroom.

📅 First session: September 17, 2026
💻 Format: Online
Duration: 4 hours [with breaks]
🌐 Language: English
👥 Who is it for: Journalists, editors, and other newsroom team members who want to better reach younger audiences

What will we do?

🔎 Better understand younger audiences
We’ll explore how people under 30 discover and follow the news, what influences their choices, and what this means for newsrooms. We’ll draw on real audience behaviour data, concrete examples, and the experiences of participating newsrooms.

🧩 Assess our possibilities
Using an audience engagement matrix, we’ll assess which formats and platforms are best suited to your newsroom, how many resources they would require, and what results it would be realistic to expect.

Audience strategist and researcher Dominika Stawarz

🎯 Choose what is worth trying
Each newsroom will develop a concrete action plan and choose 2–3 ideas that can be implemented over the following two months.

The training will be led by Dominika Stawarz

Dominika works with independent newsrooms across Central and Eastern Europe. Her work is based on research and real audience behaviour data. She also collaborates with international organisations, including Amnesty International, and has mentored LIMENet grantees in Poland.

The training will be tailored to the participating newsrooms. Before the first session, Dominika will send out a short survey and familiarise herself with the audience engagement practices you already use.

From ideas to results

Between the two sessions, you’ll put your selected ideas into practice and observe how they work in your newsroom.

📅 Second online 4h session: November 16, 2026

During this session, we’ll analyse what you tested, what worked, what surprised you, and what practices should be abandoned or approached differently. The goal is to help turn individual experiments into a consistent part of your newsroom’s work.

As the two sessions form one continuous process, we invite participants who are able to attend both sessions and test the selected solutions in between.

Registration is open until September 3. Places are limited. Selected participants will be contacted by email on September 14.
