AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards, Deadline: Aug. 1, 2015

The AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards, organized by the Kavli Foundation, recognize outstanding reporting for a general audience and honor individuals for coverage of the sciences, engineering and mathematics. There will be two awards for each category, a Gold award worth US$5,000 and a Silver award worth US$3,500. One winner for each award in each category will also receive reasonable travel expenses to attend an awards ceremony in February 2016 at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington. Open Society Fellowship, Deadline: Aug. 3, 2015

The Open Society Fellowship seeks “idea entrepreneurs” from across the world who aim to challenge conventional wisdom and are committed to achieving democracy and accountability. A fellowship project may identify a problem that has not previously been recognized, develop new policy ideas to address familiar problems, or offer a new advocacy strategy. Fellows spend a portion of their fellowship term at one of the organization’s main offices, in New York, Washington, London, Brussels or Budapest, or at a regional foundation. Click here for more information.

International Reporting Project to Ecuador, Deadline: Aug. 7, 2015

Innovative journalists, bloggers, influential social media practitioners and other media professionals can apply for a 12-day reporting trip to Ecuador.

Johns Hopkins University’s International Reporting Project will conduct the reporting trip Oct. 18 to 29. The trip will focus on health and development in Ecuador, covering topics ranging from nutrition and agriculture to infrastructure, gender equality and the status of indigenous peoples and migrants. IWMF African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative, Deadline: Aug. 12, 2015

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is leading five trips to Africa over the course of 2015 as part of its African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative. The next round will take participants to the Central African Republic. Six women journalists with excellent English skills will be selected for the trip to report on themes of civil society, governance and humanitarian issues Nov. 2 to 17. Click here for more information.

2015 Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change, Deadline: Aug. 17, 2015

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Television for the Environment (TVE) are organizing the 2015 Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change. Anyone ages 18 to 30 can submit a video on an inspiring climate change action. Two winners will receive a trip to the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP21/CMP11) Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 in Paris.
